Jeter, Suhr, Reese claim victories in Zurich

ZURICH, Switzerland -- Carmelita Jeter, Jenn Suhr and Brittney Reese all picked up wins as competition resumed in the Diamond League in Zurich, Switzerland, Thursday. Many members of Team USA traveled directly from the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, to Zurich as Diamond League competition continued.
 
The world champion at 100 meters, Jeter picked up a win in the 200m in a time of 22.27, while Suhr cleared a height of 4.72m/15-5.75 to win the pole vault and beat a field that included world champion Fabiana Murer of Brazil and world record holder Yelena Isinbayeva of Russia.  Two-time world champ Reese reached a distance of 6.72m/22-0.75 to win the long jump to continue her dominance.

Zurich was also a meet that showed depth as Americans claimed six second place finishes and five third place finishes.
 
Those who placed second included: Ryan Whiting in the men’s shot put (21.52m/70-7.25); Jason Richardson in the 110m hurdles (13.10); LaShawn Merritt in the men’s 400m (44.67); Alysia Montano in the women’s 800m (1:58.41); Dawn Harper in the 100m hurdles (12.81) and Allyson Felix in the women’s 200m (22.40).
 
Those picking up third place finishes included: Jillian Camarena-Williams in the women’s shot put (19.64m/64-5.25); Reese Hoffa in the men’s shot put (21.39m/70-2.75); Lashinda Demus in the women’s 400m hurdles (54.04); David Oliver in the 110m hurdles (13.26) and Walter Dix in the men’s 100m (10.04).
