The best way to engineer a climactic finish to the end of a track meet in 2022 was put the men's and women's 200 meters at the end of the schedule to coincide with the conclusion of the men's pole vault.

Noah Lyles, Shericka Jackson and Armand Duplantis all delivered sensational late-season performances Thursday at the Diamond League Final in Zurich, Switzerland, as the professional track circuit wound down.

Lyles, the American record holder in the 200 meters, separated from the field to win by half a second in 19.52.

He was preceded by Jackson, the Jamaican world champion, who dominated the women's field to win in 21.80. Three Americans, Gabby Thomas (22.38), Tamara Clark (22.42) and Jenna Prandini (22.45) chased after her.

Duplantis, a week after suffering a rare defeat in the men's pole vault, bounced back and broke the meeting record with a second-attempt clearance at 19 feet, 11 inches (6.07m).

Those three were among 32 athletes who stuck it out through a long season to celebrate the Diamond League finale at the Weltklasse. The winning athletes in each event pocketed $35,000 and a free pass to next year's World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Marileidy Paulino ran a world-leading time of 48.99 seconds and became the 12th woman to run under 49 seconds in a tremendous late-season performance. The Domincan Republic went 1-2 as Paulino was met at the finish by Fiordaliza Cofil (49.93).

Kirani James of Grenada won his third Diamond League title in the 400 meters with 44.26 seconds. Bryce Deadmon and Vernon Norwood of the U.S. finished second and third, but South Africa's Wayde Van Niekirk ran faster than either of them with a season-best time of 44.39 in a 'B' race.

Venezuelan star Yulimar Rojas won her second straight Diamond League title with a mark of 50-1.50 (15.28m) in the triple jump. Her winning margin was foot past the best jump of Ukraine's Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk 49-1 (14.96m).

Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh made a third-attempt clearance at 6-8 (2.03m) and took three tries at 6-9 (2.06m) to try and break her national record.

The shelf life of America's premier female throwers remained potent in late summer as Kara Winger defeated world champion Kelsey-Lee Barber of Australia in the javelin with 213-2 (64.98m) in what may have been her final competitive throws, and Valarie Allman won the discus with 222-4 (67.77m). Those victories came on the heels of Chase Ealey's shot put win Wednesday.

Tobi Amusan of Nigeria and Grant Holloway of the United States extended their domination of the straightaway hurdles. Amusan won the women's 100 hurdles final in 12.29 seconds to break a meet record. Holloway got the lead early in the 110 hurdles and held it all the way through the finish line in 13.02 seconds.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway ran with his usual confidence in the 1,500 meters, running in the front and controlling the tempo before pulling away from the field to win in 3:29.02 for a world-leading time. He finished with a disappointing silver medal in Eugene.

World champion Faith Kipyegon extended her dominance over the women's 1,500 meters event and won in 4:00.44. Ciara Mageean of Ireland was second in 4:01.68.

In the 100-meter dash finals, Jamaican treasure Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce made her first appearance at the Weltklasse a memorable one and sped to victory over Jackson, 10.65 to 10.81.

Trayvon Bromell of the U.S. won the men's 100 meters in 9.94 seconds.

In one of the best races of the night, Kenyan Emmanuel Kipkurui Korir ran a world-leading time of 1:43.26 and timed his kick perfectly to overtake Marco Arop of Canada (1:43.38) for the win.

Kenya's Mary Moraa edged out Jamaica's Natoya Goule to win the women's 800 meters in 1:57.63.

In the absence of world record holder Sydney McLaughlin, Dutch star Femke Bol won the 400-meter hurdles in 53.03. Gianna Woodruff of Panama was second in 53.72 seconds.

Alison Dos Santos reigned supreme in the men's 400-meter hurdles throughout 2022 after taking the bronze in the Tokyo Games last year. He won the Diamond League title in 46.98 seconds.

India's Neeraj Chopra produced the three longest throws of the men's javelin competition and won the title with 290-2 (88.44m).

Soufiane El Bakkali from Morocco left no doubt about his domination this year in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, winning comfortably in 8:07.67.

Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece won the men's long jump with a sixth attempt 27-7.50 (8.42m) and had the two longest marks in the competition. American Marquis Dendy was second with 26-10 (8.18m).

In the women's long jump, Serbia's Ivana Vuleta took the title with a first-attempt mark of 22-10.50 (6.97m).

Getachew Werkuha from Ethiopia, the world silver medalist, won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:03.57. Emma Coburn of the U.S. finished seventh (9:20.00).

Kristjan Čeh from Slovakia, the world champion in the men's discus, added the Diamond League title by throwing 220-1 (67.10m).

Cuba's Andy Diaz Hernandez defeated world champion Pedro Pichardo of Portugal to take the men's triple jump with a personal best mark of 58-0.75 (17.70m).
